Nord’s motor portfolio adheres to global efficiency standards, supports a wide range of environmental conditions and offers modular drive integration.
October 6, 2025 – Industrial use electric drives consume up to 70% of the total energy required, creating great optimization possibilities. Nord Drivesystems meet these requirements with a variety of powerful, energy-saving electric motors, including asynchronous, synchronous, explosive and smooth body versions. These motors are built in-house for high availability, provide high efficiency and meet all general global efficiency regulations and standards. Thanks to its modular design, they are compatible with the complete Nord gear unit and variable frequency drive portfolio, and can also be used as standalone motors.
Nord motors are built with excellent insulation methods that provide excellent moisture protection, low temperature rise and voltage spike resistance according to NEMA Mg 1. Standard motors provide protection from elements and include design benefits such as shaft trip seals at both ends of the motor shaft, moisture, double-coated magnetic insulation, corrosion resistant alloy materials, stators to sealed endbell connections to exclude twisted cable entry holes, and more. Standard features meet the most common requirements, but there are many additional options to configure Nord Motors to meet system requirements.
Nord produces four different lines of three-phase asynchronous motors with a power range of 0.16-75 hp to operate in a variety of applications. The smooth body motor is ideal for hygienic cleaning environments such as the food and beverage industry, but two-speed motors and single-phase motors provide the power needed for machine tools, pumps, conveyor belts and fans, while the standard three-phase motors provide unmatched protection against electrical and mechanical overloads in countless applications. In the standard power range, the IE3 motor retains the same overall dimensions as the lower efficiency motor for easy drop-in replacement when switching efficiency.
Smooth Surface Motors offers washdown designs suitable for the food and beverage industry, pharmaceuticals, dairy, bottling and other hygiene applications. Their aluminum alloy housings provide inherent resistance to corrosion, and thanks to their smooth surfaces, there are no ridges or cavities that cling to the particles, making them easy to remove during cleaning. The product offering includes four consecutive work premium efficient asynchronous motor sizes in the power range of 0.16-1.50 hp. Standard benefits include minimum IP66 ingress protection ratings, inverter/vector duty wiring and insulation, and moisture-resistant immersion windings. Additional motor options for the washdown system include brakes, thermal overload protection, space heaters, potted terminal boxes, condensed drain holes, and connection solutions.
NORD’s IE5+ synchronous motor utilizes permanent magnets, eliminating the need for external energy supply to generate magnetic fields, bringing extremely high efficiency, high power density, and achieving substantial energy savings, especially for continuous mandatory applications. Unlike other motors, IE5+ motors can reduce system variants by providing constant torque and efficiency over a wide range of speeds, even at partial loading operations and slower speeds. The Ventilated Version (TEFC) is optimized thanks to advanced thermal dissipation through the fine housing, while providing corrosion resistant options for sanitary environments with advanced thermal dissipation via the smooth body version (TENV).
Additionally, Nord offers explosive motors to increase the safety and efficiency of operations in hazardous environments such as grain factories, pharmaceuticals and mining, encountering explosive dust and potentially flammable gas atmospheres. Explosion protection motors for gas atmospheres cover Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D, and dust atmosphere explosion motors cover Class II, Division 2, Group F, and G.
Not only is Nord Motors strong and robust, it also has a compact design with high gear ratios, toothed motor shafts and space-saving equipment. Whether it’s agitators, conveyor systems, lowgix, food and beverage production, Nord Electric Motors offers high performance, reliability and a long service life.
