Detroit — ford motor announced Tuesday that U.S. auto sales rose 6% last year, the highest annual sales since 2019.
The Detroit automaker reported sales of 2.2 million units in 2025, including a 2.7% increase to more than 545,200 units in the fourth quarter. In 2019, the company sold 2.42 million vehicles in the U.S.
Ford ended the year as the third-largest automaker in the U.S. toyota motors Domestic sales top general motors.
Ford’s U.S. auto sales this year were roughly in line with analysts including Cox Automotive, which expects industry-wide sales to rise about 2% to 16.3 million vehicles in 2025.
“We’re really pleased with our results this year,” Andrew Frick, president of Ford’s non-vehicle operations, said on a media conference call. “As the year progressed, we performed very well across the board. … We outperformed the industry for 10 consecutive months.”
Ford’s fourth-quarter results come as the company continues to battle production troubles for its F-Series pickup trucks, caused by two fires at the New York plant of major aluminum supplier Novelis.
Frick said the automaker “seems to be on track” to make up for lost production of tens of thousands of profitable pickup trucks this year, including adding new shifts at its Michigan plant.
Sales of the F-series, which includes the popular F-150, rose 8.3% in 2025 but fell 3.1% in the fourth quarter.
Like many automakers, Ford’s EV business specifically declined by 14.1% last year, including a plunge of about 52% in the fourth quarter. Those losses were offset by a nearly 22% increase in sales of Ford’s hybrid vehicles, which the company expects to grow.
Conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines will continue to make up the majority of Ford’s sales, accounting for about 86% of the company’s sales in 2025.
