Former British ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson has resigned from Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labor Party following further revelations of his relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, British media reported.
Mandelson, who was removed from Washington as the top representative in London last year after emails emerged detailing his relationship with Epstein, said he resigned to avoid further embarrassment for the ruling party, a report said on Sunday.

“This weekend I have been further linked to the understandable uproar surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, for which I regret and am sorry,” Mandelson said in a letter reported by the BBC and the Guardian.
Mandelson said he believed reports over the weekend that he received several payments from Epstein in the early 2000s were false, but needed to be investigated, according to the report.
Mr Mandelson earlier told the BBC he did not remember the payment and did not know if the documents were genuine, repeating his regret that he had “ever known” Mr Epstein.
“I do not want to embarrass the Labor Party any further, so I am resigning my membership,” Mandelson said in the letter, according to the report.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate my apologies to the women and girls whose voices should have been heard long ago.”
Mr Mandelson’s resignation came after the Financial Times and the BBC reported documents that appeared to show him receiving payments totaling $75,000 from Mr Epstein in 2003 and 2004.
The documents were included in the investigative file on Epstein released by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday.
The latest documents also include an image of Mandelson in his underwear standing next to a woman whose face has been obscured by US authorities.
Mandelson told the BBC: “I can’t pinpoint the location, I can’t identify the woman, I can’t think of what the situation was.”
