Apple filed an appeal on Monday against the EU’s 500 million euro fine imposed by the EU, accusing Brussels of forcing the US tech giant to make “bad” changes for users.
In April, the European Commission slapped Apple with a fine, and developers piloted customers outside the App Store to access cheap deals in violation of Bloc’s digital competition rules.
“Today, we filed an appeal because we believe that the European Commission’s decision and unprecedented fines are far beyond what the law requires,” Apple said.
“As our appeal shows, the committee is mandating how we operate our stores, compelling business conditions that are confusing for developers and bad for users. We implement this to avoid punitive daily fines and share facts with (EU) courts.”
Last month, Apple announced changes to its App Store payment rules in Europe, avoiding sudden new daily fines, allowing developers to directly offer a variety of payment options to consumers within the app. The committee is currently evaluating these changes.
The EU has imposed a fine under its groundbreaking digital market laws. This states that Apple has frequently slammed and has no choice but to make changes under the threat of major penalties.
