Farmers will hold a protest outside the annual Welsh Labour meeting in Randonno this Saturday, expressing growing dissatisfaction with what they describe as a lack of government attention to agriculture and rural concerns.
The demonstration, hosted by Welsh Agricultural Campaign Group Digon YW Digon (translated as “All is enough”), begins at 9am on Saturday, June 28th, with protesters gathering at Landudonopia.
The rally aims to draw attention to what organizers call a “ignorance” of the work-run Welsh government’s agricultural community.
The farmers are the group that has led multiple agricultural protests across the UK in recent months, and have announced their support for upcoming demonstrations.
Organizers say the event is trying to highlight what is called “the complete despair of the country” about key policy areas that affect agriculture and rural life.
In a statement, Digon YW Digon said: “We are a group of farmers monitoring and assessing the approaches to agriculture, fishing and food by the Welsh and the UK government.”
“The ongoing issues regarding tuberculosis and the NVZ are well documented,” the group added. “However, we feel that our voice as an agricultural community is lost due to the imminent environmental bills, sustainable agriculture schemes, and unhealthy collaboration with environmental and biodiversity groups.”
One of the group’s central concerns is the recent announcement regarding changes to the Agricultural Inheritance Tax (IHT).
“While there is complete despair in the countryside following the announcement on IHT that affects all rural businesses, the impact of the Bluetooth statement will be the last straw for many,” the statement continued.
Digon YW Digon said he made efforts to engage constructively across the political spectrum.
“As a group, we have pledged to work and lobby with all political groups. Unfortunately, labor is not for involvement.”
Workers’ leadership is expected to gather at Llandudno for a meeting. Senior Party figures, representatives, and national media — are calling on protest organizers to supporters across the sector to join them.
“Therefore, we will hold a meeting at Lando on the 28th am outside the labor meeting held in Lando.
“Please show your support if agriculture, fishing, transportation, food, shops, manufacturing or heating allowances, national insurance, disability payments, or if this labour government is in any way affected.”
