June 30, 2025 – Emerson announces that Appleton Group Iron Casting Facility has received the 2025 Energy Excellence Award from Energy on Energy. The award recognizes businesses in Wisconsin. This will also recognize companies that support within their own organizations beyond basic energy efficiency solutions. As one of the 11 recipients, the Southern Milwaukee Foundry has proven that energy-efficient industrial facilities can reduce costs, contribute to a healthier environment, and strengthen the local economy.
“Emerson foundry shows that even energy-intensive operations can be a leader in energy efficiency,” said Erin Soman, managing director focusing on energy. “The award isn’t just about saving energy. It’s about people coming together to think differently about how they use energy and what it means for Wisconsin’s future.”
Focusing on energy is a statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy program for businesses and residents in Wisconsin. It offers a wide range of rebates and incentives for energy-saving and energy-saving technologies as well as services that help reduce energy-saving use and costs.
Appleton Foundry, which manufactures products for electrical fittings, enclosures, and other electrical infrastructure, has been working with the Energy Ondown Energy initiative since 2017. At that point, the partnership enabled Foundry to identify, evaluate, design and implement many successful energy efficiency and practical cost-saving projects.
These updates include replacing the new controls for the make-up air unit, the cordless induction melting furnace in the channel furnace, and replacing over 800 fluorescent lamps with Appleton Industrial LED fixtures. When combined, the energy improvements save the facility over $1 million per year on 10,000 megawatt hours (MWH), 650 million UK thermal units (MMBTUs), and $1 million in energy costs. The team also identified nearly $350,000 in energy-related incentives throughout this period.
The foundry team’s commitment to optimizing energy efficiency has reduced the facility’s total energy consumption and emissions by about a third since 2017, significantly reducing its own emissions and operating expenses. These reductions are especially important given that the foundry in the first century was one of the largest energy-consuming facilities in all of Emerson.
“The Energy Efficiency Excellence Award highlights the dedication of our team to improve our own environmental impact, helping to reduce costs for Wisconsin’s energy systems, and working with external organizations to move towards a more sustainable future.” “What we have achieved in Southern Milwaukee is the success story of the Emerson portfolio and the entire casting industry. It’s an honor to be recognized in this way.”
