Upstream landscapes in integration and volatility
Austin, Texas (June 25, 2025) – Embras, the most trusted energy-specific SaaS company that leverages generative AI across solutions, has released an annual list of the 100 most prolific private oil and gas producers in the United States based on total operating production, well counting and rig movements over the past year. Continental Resources continues to dominate the rankings as the top position, but this year Mewbourne Oil jumps from fourth to second, while Aethon Energy remains in third position.
“This year’s Top 100 list reflects the private operator landscape shaped by the dramatic integration of operators over the past two years: Embelus’ principal analyst Stuart.
“We see a new focus on return to the Permian edge, a push to play under radar like scoop|stack, and an innovation from longer lateral to recach.”
“The macro environment has created short-term headwinds for private companies to grow, but once things stabilize, critical private capital is nurtured and ready to hunt for new opportunities. It can result from buying longer, more production assets from other private companies, swirling into gas, or focusing on the outside of Penian in the realm of continuing to sell rises for the whole sale, on the way to continue selling rises, and for a total sale on the way to continue selling rises, which will evolve as the industry matures,” Stuart said.
This list is compiled using EnverusFoundations® and Activity Analytics data and includes a breakdown of liquid and gas production, total company well counts, recent rig programs and comparisons with previous year’s rankings. The list was featured in Upstream Pulse, a bimonthly report covering exploration and production, trading and capital markets in the oil and gas sectors of North America and the world.
