Five months later, bottles of $1,200 Besties All-In Tequila are finally starting to ship.

When the hosts of the popular podcast “All In” launched their own tequila brand at a star-studded party last June, 750 bottles of the $1,200 spirit quickly sold out. But getting these bottles into customers’ hands proved more difficult than expected.

Jason Calacanis, one of the podcast’s hosts, told TechCrunch that bottles of the long-awaited Besties All-In Tequila began shipping to customers last week, ending a nearly five-month wait.

The challenge, Karacanis said, was the unusual bottle. “It took a little longer than expected to create the handcrafted bottles, but the bottles started shipping last week.” The bottles are designed as collector’s items and look like a stack of poker chips lit from the bottom. It pays homage to one of the podcast hosts’ favorite pastimes besides drinking tequila: poker.

At the time, buyers were told they could expect delivery by the end of summer. But summer is gone. The customer not only withdrew $1,200, but also paid taxes and other fees.

TechCrunch readers have reported repeated delays in their deliveries, which have been pushed back to October and November, with one person recently being told that their delivery would not be until “November or later,” according to a letter from Flavia, a spirits market distributor seen by TechCrunch.

Both the product’s official website and Flavia’s communications reflect the change in timeline, with the website initially promising shipping in late summer, but now saying shipping will “begin in November.” Flavia’s letter indicated that deliveries were made in batches.

It’s not yet clear how long it will take for distributors to process all orders, but at least we know that shipments have started and what the backlog was. With any luck, the VCs, pod buddies, and “best friends” fans who host All In will be sipping on this expensive handcrafted booze during the upcoming holiday season.

Flavia has not yet responded to a request for comment.
