Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 200,000 vehicles as software defects can cause rear-view cameras to break down, increasing the risk of crashes and injuries.
Ford told highway safety regulators that cameras can display blank images or images will remain visible after drivers have finished backup, causing distractions.
The dealer will eventually update the camera software for free. The owner notification letter is scheduled to be mailed by July 28th.
Ford’s number for this recall is 25S72 and owners can call Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Management Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
