Former Patagonia CEO Rose Marcario is stepping down from her role on Rivian’s board of directors, according to a stock exchange filing Friday afternoon.
Rivian said in her filing that Marcario’s last day was Jan. 1 and that she is resigning “to focus on other work.” Rivian’s resignation will reduce the number of board members from eight to seven.
Marcario has served on Rivian’s board since January 2021, taking the role after 12 years as an executive (and eventually CEO) at Patagonia. Before taking over, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe often talked about his goal for the company to become the “Patagonia of EVs.”
Rivian announced Friday that Marcario will continue in his role as chairman of the board that oversees the Rivian Foundation. She joins Scaringe, Rivian’s chief sustainability officer Anisa Kamadoli Costa, and conservationist Ed M. Norton on its board.
The Rivian Foundation, created just before the company’s blockbuster 2021 IPO, was initially handed a 1% stake in the company to make the “natural world” a “stakeholder in society.” [Rivian’s] success. “As Rivian’s stock price fell from its post-IPO highs, the foundation remained quiet for the first few years, announcing its first $10 million grant in 2024.
This year, the Rivian Foundation announced an additional $2.6 million in awards on its website.
