Imran Khan, Pakistan’s imprisoned former prime minister, is in good health but suffering from near-isolation in prison, his sister said, the first family member allowed to see him in weeks.
Uzma Khanum, a doctor, spoke to reporters on Tuesday in the city of Rawalpindi, where her brother is imprisoned, and gave the latest information.

“He’s in good physical shape,” Khanum said. “But he is always confined indoors and only goes outside for short periods of time. He has no contact with anyone.”
Mr Khanum said he was “very angry” that Mr Khan was being isolated and considered the resulting “mental torture” to be “worse than the physical abuse”.
Their brief meeting was closely monitored and no mobile device use was allowed during it, she noted.
Supporters of Mr. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) had gathered outside Adiala prison since early Tuesday morning to check on him.
Ahead of Khanum’s visit, PTI and Khan’s family had expressed concern that no relatives or associates had been allowed to see him for almost a month, and last week one of his sons told Reuters he feared “something irrevocable is being hidden from us.”
On Tuesday, the former leader’s spokesman, Zulfikar Bukhari, called on authorities to allow Khan’s relatives and defense team to meet more regularly.
His family also wants his doctor to check on his health, but that hasn’t happened in over a year.
The Pakistan Human Rights Commission, an independent human rights watchdog, said it was “gravely concerned” by reports about Mr Khan’s detention conditions.
While Pakistani authorities insist Mr. Khan was not abused, Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry said prison visits were the responsibility of prison officials, not the government.
The 73-year-old detainee, a former professional cricketer, served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 to April 2022, before being ousted in a no-confidence vote.
He has been in prison since August 2023 and was convicted of multiple crimes including corruption and leaking state secrets. He was later acquitted of some of the charges. Mr. Khan has denied any wrongdoing and said the case against him is politically motivated.
Khan remains popular among many Pakistanis. His party won the most votes in the 2024 election, beating its nearest rival by 4.5 million votes. However, the rival parties formed a coalition government and the PTI was frozen.
