If your Gmail account didn’t seem to be working properly on Saturday, you’re not alone. However, Google says the issue has been resolved.
According to Google Workspace’s official status dashboard, the issue began Saturday morning around 5 a.m. Pacific Time, with users experiencing both “misclassified emails in their inboxes and additional spam alerts.”
For me, this meant my primary inbox was filled with messages that would normally appear in my promotional, social, or update inboxes, and spam alerts appeared on emails from known senders. Other users complained on social media that “all the spam is coming straight to my inbox” and that Gmail’s filters seemed to “suddenly stop working completely.”
Google’s dashboard was updated throughout Saturday with messages indicating that the company was still working on resolving the issue. Late Saturday evening, Google posted that the issue was “fully resolved for all users.”
“Some Gmail users were experiencing misclassified emails in their inboxes or delays in receiving emails,” the company said in an update to its dashboard. “Additionally, spam alerts incorrectly classified as a result of this incident may remain on existing messages received before the issue is resolved.”
The company also said it would “publicly issue an analysis of this incident once the internal investigation is complete.”
