California is the US state with the highest number of electric vehicles.

California is the US state with the largest number of electric vehicles.

A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to release billions of dollars allocated to building electric vehicle charging stations in dozens of US states.

In Tuesday’s ruling, U.S. District Judge Tana Lynn granted a provisional injunction to request the distribution of funds for National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) development, which was allocated $5 billion for use between 2022 and 2026.

The NEVI program, which was signed to the law in 2021 by then-President Joe Biden, was reimbursed in February by the Trump administration’s Department of Transportation, x predicted funds for 16 states and the District of Columbia.

President Donald Trump repeatedly called climate change a “hoax” and repeatedly pushed for abandoned electric vehicles booster programs to drill extensively for oil.

Trump is also blocking California’s plans to ban internal combustion engines by 2035.

The 17 attorney generals sued in May to freeze the Trump administration in May, led by California, the state with the largest electric vehicle.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta cannot add a legal program saying “it’s no secret that the Trump administration will be seen on the fossil fuel agenda,” so “so that the president’s large oil friends can earn record-breaking benefits.”

Democrats praised Lynn’s orders, saying California “looks forward to continuing to defend it vigorously from this administrative overreach.”

In response to the ruling, a Department of Transport spokesman on Wednesday denounced the Biden-era Nevy program as a “disaster,” calling Lynn “another judicial activist who has made meaningless rulings from the bench to hate President Trump.”

It was not clear whether the administration intends to appeal the ruling.

“While assessing legal options, this order does not stop the ongoing work for reforming the program,” the spokesman added.

The Trump administration will need to appeal or release funds under Lynn’s orders until July 2nd. This applies to the Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Colomboa areas.
