The 140,000-square-foot Shrewsbury, Massachusetts facility will open in the fall of 2025 and will grow high-tech employment in Greater Boston.
Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, October 2, 2025 – PI (Physik Instrumente), a global leader in ultra-precision motion systems for management and nanopositioning systems for the semiconductor, photonics, life sciences and aerospace industry, has announced progress on its new US production facility in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Only one since construction began in spring 2024. The 140,000-square-foot site, set to open in November 2025, is highlighting PI’s strategy to reduce the impact of import duties, improve supply stability and enhance local customer support.
The new factory triples the total space for PI’s current Auburn, Hopkinton and Nashua missions. Manufacturing includes advanced motion and automation systems, air bearings, piezoelectric transducers, and nanodeposited components. This expansion will allow for faster response to market demand, reducing market demand, lead times and improving services for North American customers.
Beyond production, the Shrewsbury facility creates high-quality engineering and technology jobs, strengthening the region’s advanced manufacturing sector. PI aims to stimulate economic growth in the region while creating a centre of innovation by attracting top technical talent.
Production localization protects PI and its customers from volatility in international trade and import duties, providing stable pricing and reliable delivery. The new site is consistent with a broader industry trend to reuse manufacturing operations in response to changes in global trade policy.
The Shrewsbury facility represents a major investment in PI’s global growth strategy, highlighting the importance of the North American market. In addition to strengthening the supply chain, it will promote the development of next-generation technologies in photonics, semiconductors, aerospace and life sciences.
