Posital Explosion-Proof Rotary Encoders are currently certified

Hamilton, NJ, July 2025 – Postal’s explosive IXARC incremental and absolute rotary encoders are certified to comply with UL requirements for hazardous levels of operation of combustible gases, dust and fiber (Class I, Division 2, Group A, B, C and C facilities 2, Class II, Group II Plant 2, Class II FEN, and Class II are located in Class II. Woodworking, Grain Processing Facilities, Fabric Production. UL’s certification documents cover multiple encoder configurations.

These products are also certified for international ATEX and IECEX standards compliance for Category 3 electrical appliances operating under Zone 2 and Zone 22 conditions.

Posital’s UL certified encoder features an aluminum or stainless steel housing designed to eliminate electrical hot spots that can ignite or cause fires. These housings include a robust magnetic measurement system that combines extremely accurate power output with the ability to withstand shock loads of up to 100g and high vibrations of 10g.

The IXARC incremental encoder has several programmable performance parameters. The resolution (1-16,384 pulses per revolution) and incremental pulse direction (A before A before A) can be changed by a simple firmware update. Similarly, the output driver can be configured to either push-pull (HTL) or RS422 (TTL). Customers can order configurations that need to be pre-configured at the factory, or customize the encoder on-site using Posital’s handy Ubifast programming tools.

The absolute encoder has a single-turn resolution of up to 16 bits and a multi-tan count range of 20 bits (more than 1 million times). Available communication interfaces include Analog, SSI, Canopen, J1939, IO-Link, Ethercat, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet. The multi-turn version of the rotating counter features an energy harvesting wigand sensor system. This reduces maintenance requirements by eliminating the need to install, test and replace the backup battery.

Like other members of the IXARC encoder family, UL/ATEX/IECEX certified models can be ordered in a variety of mounting flange designs and shaft configurations. This wide range of configuration options allow you to choose an encoder configuration that can be easily integrated into almost any machine or system. It is easy to identify the right IXARC encoder for a particular application.
