The decisive agricultural student at Barnsley College has overcome serious challenges after surviving a serious stroke in 2021 and following his passion for agriculture and a decisive pursuit of a future career in dairy products.
Neive Burke’s recovery journey was amazing. After relearn to walk and talk, she finds new goals through agriculture and is now excelling at the Wigfield Farm Campus at Barnsley College.
Having completed a Level 2 agricultural course, Neive has gained valuable practical experience in livestock management and farm management, and is highly respected by both his tutors and his peers.
She entered the Level 3 farming program this September, further strengthening her key skills, such as livestock handling, tractor driving and farm management.
Nave said: “My love for livestock and nature motivated me, and connecting with them helped me recover by calming me.
“It’s a dream to study something that I love so much. After missing out on three years of school, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to achieve it.”
Her resilience was recently recognized at the Barnsley College Student Excellence Awards, where she was awarded the Townsend Tribute Award, given to students in Education, Health and Care Plans who overcame a significant obstacle to pursuing their goals.
Macauley Parkin, course leader at Neive, commented: “Neive shows us all about what true resilience looks like. Her strength and optimism have made her a role model among her peers and inspired her to the wider community.”
Neive hopes to combine her passion for animal welfare with a commitment to supporting UK agriculture to build a career in the dairy sector.
Her message to others in the agricultural community facing adversity is clear.
