On Tuesday, Meta provided “Fediverse” with posts from apps or servers that synced their dedicated feeds to “Fediverse” in threads. This is a challenge to the X platform, originally known as Twitter.
Fediverse allows users to stay on one platform and explore cross-platform content. This means that Meta will retain users in our product and display content posted to Mastodon or other participating platforms.
Meta has also added the ability to search for profiles on Fediverse’s platform from within the Sthreas app.
“Our new search capabilities and dedicated Fediverse feeds help us discover more perspectives from people outside of threads,” Meta said in a blog post.
“You don’t have to miss someone’s post just because you posted on a different platform.”
The thread accepted Fediverse about a year ago, allowing users to view posts from accounts that follow on other connected platforms such as Mastodon, Bookwyrn, Writefreely, and more.
“This allows us to see a wider range of perspectives wherever we post,” Mehta said, adding, “and we hope others will get involved over time.”
After Twitter users purchased the platform in late 2022, the thread was one of the social networks that interested them becoming more open as Twitter users sought alternatives.
Meta is an open global network of Fediverse interconnected but independent social media servers, each with its own users, content and rules.
Meta compared the way people using different email services send messages to each other because the platform fits common behind-the-scenes protocols.
However, unlike emails, shared posts are public.
“The ability to search for Fediverse users in new Fediverse feeds and threads is another step in our journey to making this social platform fully interoperable,” Meta said.
“We will continue to work with developers and policymakers to make progress in this area.”
